Parents Taking Charge in Education Summer Fun and Learning
through Exposure Series Part 3- From where do Fruits and Vegetables Come? By Mrs. Dorothy
Barron
If you ask a child on today if he or she knows where the
food on his or her table comes from, one may receive a common and logical
answer; the store. Have you ever taken your child to a Farmers’ Market?
Today, with the assistance of the United States Department
of Agriculture, we want to provide you with the following link, http://search.ams.usda.gov/farmersmarkets/Accessible.aspx;
it takes one to a site which lists Farmers’ Markets throughout the United
States. Farmers at these markets can assist you and your child/ren with
learning more about fruits and vegetables; from whence they come and how they
get to your table.
We also want to note that with the Initiatives of The First
Lady of the United States, Mrs. Michelle Obama and Move-On, America’s children
and others are become more informed and savvy about Nutrition, Healthy Eating
and gardening.
As an additional treat, we also received information about a
site which lists Scenic Highways and Byways; the URL link is http://byways.org/explore/.
Perhaps,
funds are a bit low this year and your normal vacation is not feasible, affordable
or you desire something
different; why not take a family road trip along a scenic highway? You can make
the trip as short or as long as feasible and affordable; take your digital
camera along, get plenty of pictures and upon return each family member can
make a photo scrapbook of his/her favorite pictures and adventure. Such is
priceless and will become a priceless treasure later.
Experience one or
both of the aforementioned activities; we think one or both will provide fun
and learning experiences for both you and your child/ren.
